사람들에게 섞이지 못하는 한 소년의 소외감과 외로움에서 출발했습니다. 사회 어디에도 속하지 못하는 존재를 ‘이방인’이라 정의하고, 가면을 씌우고 팔을 지움으로써 표정과 몸짓을 숨겼습니다. 원초적 교감을 감춘 채 살아가야 하는 이방인과 그가 느끼는 감정을 담아냈습니다. 수많은 공동체와 가치관 속에서 우리는 온전히 속해 있는가? 희미한 사회적 정체성에 대한 삶의 태도를 표현하며, 사회와 개인의 관계를 조명합니다.

Boy with a Cat Mask This work began from the sense of alienation and loneliness of a boy who cannot blend in with others. I defined the self who belongs nowhere in society as “the outsider.” By placing a mask over the boy’s face and erasing his arms, I hid his expressions and gestures. It embodies the outsider who must live while concealing primal communication, and the emotions he carries. Are we ever fully a part of the countless communities and value systems we are entangled in? By expressing a faint and unstable social identity, I sought to shed light on the relationship between the individual and society.

작가와 함께 살아가는 고양이에서 출발한 작업입니다. DEEP Sea Cat은 심해에 홀로 있는 고양이를 형상화한 작품으로, 깊고 고요한 바다처럼 외로움과 고독의 감정을 담고 있습니다. 친밀한 존재이자 동시에 고립을 비추는 상징으로 확장됩니다.

This series began with the cat who shares the artist’s daily life. DEEP Sea Cat depicts a cat drifting in the deep sea, embodying solitude and isolation. Like the quiet depths of the ocean, it reflects both the intimacy of a familiar companion and the vast loneliness of being apart.
